Ms. Kim is a composer from Seoul, South Korea. While in Seoul, she worked as a music instructor, and a producer/arranger for the music accompaniment application, “Instream Music”. She holds an MFA from NYU Tisch, Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program (Composer), and a BA from Korea National University of Arts with a major in Musicology and a minor in Composition. Ms. Kim was selected as a Music Gifted Education recipient by Seoul Metropolitan and completed the program during her high school years.
Recently embarking on a new journey in NYC, Ms. Kim actively engages in the musical theatre industry. She premiered her new musical, “Heavy Heaven” (2023, book/lyrics/music), as a participant in the New York Theatre Festival, earning nominations in the Best Production Short, Best Music Score, and Best Singer categories. Additionally, she presented a staged reading of her full-length musical, “Bari: The Abandoned Princess” (2023, music/lyrics), as part of the Spark Theatre Festival. Ms. Kim has served as a pianist and music director for various shows, including as an associate music director for the award-winning musical, “Fly To Tomorrow,” which underwent a 29-hour reading at Playwrights Horizons.
As a music instructor, Ms. Kim prioritizes communication with her students, helping them achieve their individual goals. She began her teaching career by guiding high school students in audition preparation, with many successfully gaining acceptance into their desired universities. Her teaching style emphasizes expressive techniques, aiming to cultivate creativity and individuality in her students’ musical performances. With over two decades of piano playing experience and a diverse background in music, Ms. Kim imparts not only piano skills but also a profound appreciation for music itself. Currently, she teaches piano and music theory at Vienna Music, where she passionately shares musical journeys with students of various levels and ages, cherishing the opportunity to nurture their enthusiasm and potential.
