About Ms. Chen
Ms. Chen started her piano and violin studies at a young age. She began her professional music training in the Kuang Jen School Music Division at the age of six, where she was accepted as a double major. Ms. Chen has won numerous prizes from piano competitions, including the Yamaha and Kawai International Competitions and the Young Artists Award in her hometown, Taiwan. Ms. Chen pursued her degrees (2004-2012) at the Mannes School of Music and Juilliard School, where she studied with Ms. Victoria Mushkatkol, Ms. Pavlina Dokovska, Ms. Irina Edleman, and Mr. Victor Rosenbaum.
As an active solo and chamber musician, Ms. Chen’s New York appearances include concerts at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Town Hall, Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and the Church of the Holy Trinity, as well as in Taiwan’s National Concert Hall. Ms. Chen performs extensively as a pianist in the Eastern America Association for Church Music. She has participated and performed at the BIMFA International Music Festival and in master classes under the direction of renowned pianists.
Ms. Chen committed to becoming a professional music educator early in her career. She believes that being an educator carries tremendous responsibility, and requiring not only extensive knowledge of the subject but also the ability to adapt teaching approaches effectively which only comes with experience.
Ms. Chen has distinguished herself as a thoughtful musician and educator. During her 20-plus years of professional teaching, Ms. Chen has instructed hundreds of students and held numerous music recitals for her students over time. With her extensive teaching experience in both private lessons and music institutions, Ms. Chen sets a very high standard for Vienna Music, because she believes a conducive learning environment is key for proper education. Ms. Chen specializes in instructing students who plan to take certified examinations (NYSSMA, ABRSM, and RCM) and guiding students who intend to apply to music conservatories and become music professionals.
Her students have achieved high marks in NYSSMA, ABRSM, and RCM grading exams and have been accepted to the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College and Mannes Preparatory Music Division.
In the past 10 years, her students have won numerous prizes in the American Protégé International Piano Competition and the AADGT International Young Musician Festival. Many of her students have won first prizes and performed at Carnegie Weill Hall.
